Oracle E-Business Suite R12

Implementation, upgrades and support for on-premises EBS.

Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) R12 is a comprehensive, integrated suite of enterprise applications designed to automate and manage global business operations. Originally developed as a traditional on-premises Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, it runs directly on top of the flagship Oracle Database. Despite the emergence of newer cloud-native SaaS solutions like Oracle Fusion Applications, Oracle continues to actively support and upgrade EBS R12, extending Premier Support through at least 2037 to accommodate thousands of global enterprises

EBS R12 organizes its applications into tightly integrated “families” that cover virtually all aspects of enterprise operations:

Oracle Financials Family

This family acts as the central accounting engine of the enterprise, ensuring regulatory compliance and global financial visibility.

  • Oracle General Ledger (GL):
    • The central repository for all financial data.
    • Consolidates data from other subledgers, manages the Chart of Accounts (COA), and generates financial statements.
  • Oracle Accounts Payable (AP):
    • Tracks and manages vendor liabilities and supplier payments.
    • Handles invoice matching (3-way match between Purchase Order, Receipt, and Invoice) and expense reports.
  • Oracle Accounts Receivable (AR):
    • Manages customer invoicing, billing, and payment processing.
    • Tracks customer credit balances, collections, and processes cash applications.
  • Oracle Cash Management (CE):
    • Handles bank reconciliation and cash forecasting.
    • Directly integrates with AP and AR to verify bank statements against internal transactions.
  • Oracle Fixed Assets (FA):
    • Tracks the lifecycle of physical assets (machinery, property, IT equipment).
    • Automatically calculates monthly depreciation using various accounting methods.

Supply Chain Management (SCM) Family

This family controls the flow of goods from raw materials to final customer delivery, optimizing inventory levels and procurement costs.

  • Oracle Inventory (INV):
    • The foundational core of the SCM family.
    • Tracks stock items, item attributes, warehouse locations, and manages internal material movements.
  • Oracle Purchasing (PO):
    • Automates the procurement process.
    • Manages Requests for Quotes (RFQs), processes purchase requisitions, issues purchase orders, and handles supplier approvals.
  • Oracle Order Management (OM):
    • Manages the complete “Order-to-Cash” lifecycle.
    • Processes customer orders, checks stock availability, handles pricing rules, and interfaces with shipping execution.
  • Oracle Advanced Supply Chain Planning (ASCP):
    • A complex forecasting engine.
    • Analyzes supply and demand to recommend what to buy, what to manufacture, and when to meet production goals.

Manufacturing & Projects Family

Designed for industrial environments and project-based businesses to track operational costs and shop-floor execution.

  • Oracle Work in Process (WIP):
    • Manages the actual production floor activity.
    • Tracks the material, labor, and overhead resources utilized to build specific products.
  • Oracle Bills of Material (BOM):
    • Stores product recipes and blueprints.
    • Defines the exact component list (items from the INV module) and operations (routings) required to manufacture an item.
  • Oracle Project Costing & Billing (PA):
    • Used by project-centric industries (like construction or consulting).
    • Tracks budgets, expenses, and milestones, and automates complex client invoicing based on project progress.

Key Modules in Manufacturing Implementations

When manufacturing companies implement Oracle Fusion, they typically deploy a combination of the following suites to achieve end-to-end automation:

Oracle Fusion Cloud Manufacturing

Handles work order execution, shop floor controls, material routing management, work centre configuration, and resource shifts.

Oracle Cloud Supply Chain Management (SCM)

Manages demand forecasting, automated procurement workflows, and global inventory tracking.

Oracle Cloud Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)

Accelerates time-to-market by standardising data packages for engineering designs and bills of materials (BOM).

Oracle Cloud IoT Intelligent Applications

Utilises factory sensor data for proactive asset tracking, predictive machine maintenance, and real-time work-in-progress (WIP) monitoring.

Oracle Cloud ERP (Financials)

Embeds live production costing methodologies (standard, actual, or average) directly into general ledger reports without manual oversight.

Human Capital Management (HCM) Family

Manages the entire workforce lifecycle, from recruitment and daily tracking to payroll.

  • Oracle Core HR:
    • Maintains the master employee database.
    • Tracks organizational hierarchies, jobs, positions, employee personal data, and assignments.
  • Oracle Payroll:
    • Calculates gross-to-net earnings, manages tax deductions, and processes direct deposits.
    • Fully localized to comply with region-specific tax laws.
  • Oracle Time & Labor (OTL):
    • An automated timecard system where workers log hours.
    • Directly feeds approved time data into Payroll and Project Costing.

While historically locked inside traditional, physical corporate data centres, modern organizations frequently utilize “Lift and Shift” frameworks to host EBS R12. By migrating the workload to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), companies retain their heavily customized EBS environments while discarding the hardware maintenance overhead. OCI architectures wrap EBS R12 deployments in highly secure, fault-tolerant networks utilizing Automated Tooling, Exadata database racks, and automated load balancers
